Clint Wattenberg

SERTC

Chico, California

Clint Wattenberg joined the Virginia Tech Athletic Staff in August of 2023 as the associate athletics director of sports nutrition along with being a freestyle coach. Before joining Virginia Tech, Wattenberg was the director of performance nutrition for the UFC Performance Institute. While in this role, he oversaw four registered dietitians and four performance chefs in supporting UFC athletes through an interdisciplinary high-performance care model. Prior to his time at the UFC, Clint spent 6 years at Cornell University where he was an assistant wrestling coach (2004-2006) and a member of their sports nutrition department (2011-2017).

Before his working career, Wattenberg excelled as a collegiate and freestyle wrestler. During his four years at Cornell University, he was a two-time All-American and ended his career ranked second all-time in wins. After graduating from Cornell University, Clint went on to wrestle in the 2004 Olympic Trials where he finished 3rd (his only loss in the tournament came to eventual Gold Medalist Cael Sanderson). Clint was a member of Team USA’s freestyle national wrestling team from 2006-2008. In 2013 Wattenberg was added to the Cornell Athletics Hall of Fame.

Wattenberg adds both wrestling experience and nutrition knowledge to the collegiate athletes within SERTC and Virginia Tech. His roles within these positions provide so much value to the health of the athletes for a successful future.
